Now, we'll see if the landlord is responsible for fixing it.
The issue is NOT the renter's fault (does not apply if the issue was caused by domestic violence, unlawful sexual behavior, or stalking)
The issue was NOT caused by anyone who lives with the renter or the renter’s guest or visitor
If the issue is outside the renter’s unit (like in a common area) it affects the renter’s unit
The renter did NOT prevent the landlord (or anyone else) from repairing the issue
The landlord has NOT taken reasonable steps to fix the issue
The issue was NOT caused by someone who is the renter or employee, the landlord reasonably tried to fix the issue, and is unable to fix it for reasons beyond the their control.
If your home has one of the issues above your landlord needs to fix the issue. Before you take any action, let's make sure you qualify.
If your home does not have one of the issues listed above, your landlord may not be required to fix the issue.
